As a reminder for those who might not know what the "Democratic Party" in the United States is (because most people who don't live there easily get confused with these names and terms), it's the "left-wing" or "liberal" party of the two major ones (as opposed to the "Republican Party"). In the last presidential election Donald Trump was the Republican candidate and Hillary Clinton was the Democrat candidate.
In the relatively recent past (from about the 1960's or so, up until a couple of years ago) this political party had relatively sane policies, which were by large exemplified by their last president (as of writing this), Barack Obama. On one hand they had rather "liberal" policies, such as wanting a more affordable universal healthcare system, more gun control and so on and so forth. On the other hand they also had relatively sane, what you could perhaps call "conservative", policies, such as strong border control enforcement and the deportation of illegal immigrants. (All Democrat presidents and presidential candidates up until a couple of years ago have always talked about stronger border enforcement. It was, in fact, one of the biggest talking points of Barack Obama and, believe or not, even Hillary Clinton up until Trump became the primary Republican candidate in the last presidential election.)
Almost no Democrat president or presidential candidate in the past has ever advocated any extreme social justice ideology policies, nor has used much of such rhetoric. Their policies have always been relatively reasonable and sane, left-leaning for the most part, but not too much.
For some reason, the current Democrat presidential candidates, and pretty much the entire Democratic Party, however, is now in full Trump Derangement Syndrome mode, to the absolute extreme. The entire party has gone completely down the gutter.
It's like the presidential candidates are trying to one-up each other in how many social justice ideology talking points they are advocating and spouting. They have almost all swung full extreme left in almost everything. Almost the entire party has reversed many of the policies they have had during the last 50 or so years with respect to many social justice talking points.
They advocate for pretty much open borders, they want to offer free healthcare to all illegal immigrants (even though even citizens don't have that), they want to spend innumerable amount of money on helping illegal immigrants stay in the country, they are constantly talking about "racism" and "white supremacy" and are promising the most ridiculous things to "fight" those things, they want all guns banned and confiscated, they want to offer "reparations" for black people... The whole shebang. And of course they are antagonizing all Republicans by calling them all the names in the book, and are completely unashamed of it.
Most of those talking points and rhetoric would have been political suicide a mere 4 years ago. Yet now pretty much every single candidate is spouting it and trying to one-up each other on how much they virtue-signal.
