What's happening to Paul Joseph Watson?

I have commented a few times in this blog that it seems that the more time anti-leftists spend conversing with and listening to American conservatives, the more American conservative ideas seem to rub off on them.

Even many European-style liberals who are staunchly anti-left, and highly critical of the excesses of the far-left, seem to one by one adopt or at a very minimum become sympathetic to the ideas of the American conservatives in particular, both in good and in bad.

American conservatives are Classical Liberals to a T, and thus many European conservatives / anti-leftists seem to start becoming more sympathetic to its core tenets, as opposed to Social Liberalism (which is what European centrists and anti-leftists tend to be).

If that were all, then it wouldn't be all that bad. The thing is, that's not everything that the American conservatives believe, and which therefore start rubbing off on their European (and overall non-American) counterparts. Sadly, American conservatives are very keen on believing certain conspiracy theories. And what do you know their beliefs seep onto those from other countries sympathetic to them.

Paul Joseph Watson is a quite famous anti-leftist political commentator and influencer, and one of the biggest such people on YouTube. Watching him, and what he's saying, you would be forgiven for getting the strong impression that he's an American. However, he's actually British, and living in the UK.

Being a long-time British national he in the past espoused most of the principles of European Social Liberalism. However, the more years have passed, the more and more he is becoming a devout American conservative. Both in good and, unfortunately, in bad.

Most egregiously, he seems to have fully embraced the American conservative conspiracy theory about climate change. He has swallowed it so hard and so deep that he has been making outright retarded videos about it.

In 2018 I commented how Paul Joseph Watson seems to be one of the few conservatives who's actually relatively sane and rational about the question of climate change. It seems that's not the case anymore, and he's becoming more and more deranged by the month.

In his latest video (as of writing this) he mocks a proposal to put some "space bubbles" in orbit around the Earth in order to partially shade the Earth from the Sun, and thus lower the Earth's temperature.

That idea is quite stupid in itself. But not because of anything that Paul says. It's stupid because it's highly impractical: There's no practical way of implementing it, and it's just a stupid idea overall.

However, that's not what Paul's points are.

He thinks that the proposal is stupid because, apparently, it would completely block the Sun from view, making the entire Earth completely shaded, and how stupid and devastating that is. He says this... while quoting the part of the proposal that says that the "space bubbles" would block about 1.8% of the sunlight.

1.8%

Is Paul Joseph Watson really so incompetent that he either cannot read, or cannot understand what "1.8%" means? Rather obviously if you block just 1.8% of sunlight, it will be almost imperceptible to the human eye, and will have very little effect on eg. plant life and everything. (The original proposal claims that 1.8% less sunlight will help cool down the Earth enough to compensate for global warming.)

He literally talks in the video as if the proposed sunshields would cause an eternal night on Earth.

Another stupid thing he does in the video is mock the implication that the Sun causes global warming: "But wait, I thought the Sun had nothing to do with climate change. I thought is all my fault for taking an annual holiday."

Is he really this clueless?

Of course the source of global warming is the Sun. Duh. What else could it be? Magic? Nobody is saying that the source of the heat isn't the Sun.

The heat comes from the Sun, transported by sunlight. The problem is what happens with that sunlight once it hits the Earth: How much of this heat gets absorbed and how much gets reflected back into space? The more gets absorbed, the hotter the Earth becomes.

The main reason why more sunlight is now getting absorbed than in the past is because of the higher CO2 levels in the atmosphere, which creates a greenhouse effect which traps the sunlight, and thus heat, inside, not letting it leave.

There are many ways to combat this. One of them would be to lessen the amount of sunlight coming in. Practical or not, achievable or not, it's a completely valid idea: Less sunlight, less trapped heat.

How can he become this stupid? He doesn't understand anything he's talking about.

What's happening to him? He didn't use to be this stupid years ago.
