A group of mostly-white mostly-middle-class rich kids in Seattle, Washington decided to take the opportunity that the current protests and riots provided them and engage in a bit of fantasy roleplaying and claim an about 6-8 block area in the middle of Capitol Hill and declare it an "autonomous zone" where the police and the government have no business entering. In other words, a no-go zone.
By doing so they have probably broken at least a dozen federal and state laws (with illegal disruption of traffic being one of the mildest ones), on top of another dozen city ordinances, but apparently the city officials and law enforcement don't care and are allowing them to engage in their roleplaying.
This "autonomous zone", and how it's run, is just absolutely hilarious. Why?
Well, consider that these people are the exact same regressive leftist anarcho-communists that are protesting the police and are demanding the police to be defunded and dismantled. The people who oppose guns and want them made completely illegal. The people who strongly oppose borders, the ones who chant "no wall, no borders at all".
So what was the very first thing they did when they created this "autonomous zone"? Built barricades around it and enrolled among themselves heavily armed guards to control the borders, and to frisk anybody who enters, and to stop anybody they don't like from entering.
So much for opposing walls, borders, border control, border officials and guns. Immediately when they get their own "mini-country" what is it that happens? The exact thing they claim to oppose.
The same armed thugs patrol the zone trying to stop the rampant crime happening within. You know, because police is evil, but not when they do it.
Not that they are very successful. The larpers living in the zone are reporting on social media how their stuff and their food gets stolen, never to be found.
They are, however, quite good at extorting the few local businesses within the zone for money. You know, because capitalism is evil, so they'll happily take money from businesses as "taxes".
Not very surprisingly, there's also racial segregation within the zone, something that was eradicated from the United States like over 50 years ago.
I wouldn't mind these lunatics playing in their sandbox all they like if it weren't for the fact that it's in the middle of a big city, inside a zone where hundreds of regular people live and several small businesses operate, and they are doing this completely illegally, breaking who knows how many laws, yet the authorities don't care nor are doing anything about it. If they did this somewhere in the middle of nowhere where nobody lives, then they can rot there for all I care. But there are normal people living there who haven't done anything and don't care about politics, whose are has been invaded by larping revolutionaries with automatic weapons, and nobody is doing anything about it.
Of course it's not going to last for very long. They are going to get tired of it and eventually just leave. However, this "mini country" is a glimpse of the future, if they ever get in full power. What they are doing in there is going to happen at the country level, if they ever get absolute power in a country.
