American police officers are cowards and criminals, part 15

A military veteran who has permanent injuries calls the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) for some kind of assistance. For some reason the dispatcher at the VA misunderstands or misjudges what the veteran is saying, and she thinks that he is being suicidal, so she calls the police to make a wellness check on the man.

So to the cops several things are very clear from the very start: This is a military veteran, the VA suspects that he might be suicidal, they have been dispatched there to do a wellness check in order to see if they can help him, and he is by no means whatsoever being suspected or accused of any sort of criminal activity.

In any normal country, ie. the vast, vast majority of existing countries, especially the free democratic ones, the cops would approach the situation calmly and with empathy, calming the person and trying to ascertain if he is indeed being suicidal and in need of help, and being as amicable, friendly and nice as possible.

But this is the United States we are talking about. Which means that to cops every single citizen is an enemy and a potential danger. So you can guess how well this went.

The very first thing they did was to ask to enter the man's apartment, and he made the mistake of allowing it. And what do you know, rather than engaging in some friendly and amicable conversation to see if the man was indeed having some kind of problems, the cops immediately approached the situation like they were entering the home of a crime suspect. One of the cops immediately wanted to check if there was anybody else in the apartment, and when the man denied him permission to do that, that hurt the ego of the cop who proceeded to quickly escalate the situation.

The other cop even directly says that they were checking the apartment for "officer safety". That's the excellent tell of the mentality of American cops: Even when they are going to the apartment of an army veteran who might be suicidal, they still treat it as if they were entering the home of a potential criminal.

After a few questions, the man opens the front door and repeatedly and clearly asks the cops to leave. But we all know how well that ever goes: Once you have let cops enter your home, they will not leave unless it's on their own terms.

Remaining in the home of a person with no exigent circumstances once their invitation has been clearly rescinded and they have been asked to leave is illegal and a clear violation of the 4th Amendment. But of course cops don't care. They take the approach of once invited, always invited, and they will leave whenever they feel like it, not when you tell them to.

And what do you know, it quickly escalates to a shouting match, the cops handcuff the man, and then proceed to illegally search his home without permission, both actions also being highly illegal.

They then proceed to take him to their police car as if he were a criminal, even though he had committed absolutely no crime. After some time his injuries started hurting him so he requested an ambulance. The ambulance was called but because cops have a handcuff fetish, they just had to handcuff him to the stretcher, all the way to the hospital.

This army veteran, who was injured in combat, and who should be treated with high respect for his services, was treated like trash, like a criminal, by these subhuman pieces of human garbage, just because they are tyrants and their egos were hurt.

The man sued the city and the police department, both of which obviously fought back as hard as they could. After a whopping 6 years of litigation, a jury awarded him 6.8 million dollars of compensation. Paid from taxpayer money, of course.

Do you know what happened to the cops who did this, and caused the city to have to pay 6.8 million dollars to the victim of their abuse?

Absolutely nothing. Obviously. Did you think anything else?

American cops and cities always protect their own, even the most corrupt abusive cops.

A video about the incident.
