Things we can learn from the pandemic: ADHD diagnoses are bullshit

In most of the United States schools have been closed or severely restricted for almost a year now, and almost all education has moved to be done remotely, with the children staying at home.

The media has started noticing a curious phenomenon happening during this time: The number of first-time ADHD diagnoses in the United States during the past year has increased by over 60% compared to normal, which is a huge amount.

How is this possible? Does the pandemic cause ADHD? Does not being able to go to school, and instead having to attend remote classes from home, cause ADHD?

Or could it perhaps be that, maybe, just maybe, it's the parents, who can't stand their unruly kids, taking them to the doctor to have them diagnosed with ADHD, and the doctors being way too eager to do so, so that the parents can drug their kids into becoming docile?

Could it perhaps be that parents have been so accustomed for years to have peace and silence at home during school hours, and now for a year they have been having to bear with their "attentive deficit" kids all day long? In other words, just normal healthy kids being kids, who are forced to stay home all day long.

Could it perhaps be that parents want to drug their children into being quiet, to just sit there in front of the screen for six hours straight? Could it perhaps be that completely ignorant and irresponsible American doctors, who get sponsored by giant pharmaceutical megacorporations, are way too happy to comply?

For decades I have been of the opinion that the ADHD epidemic, which seems almost completely exclusive to the United States, is complete bullshit. This phenomenon just goes to give yet another piece of evidence.

Some people have compared ADHD medication to doping: An athlete or bodubuilder may take drugs to enhance his performance, but that doesn't mean he has some kind of "deficiency" or "disorder" for which he is taking the drugs. He may be completely 100% healthy, but he just wants increased performance or musculature via drugs. Same thing with parents wanting for their kids to be more attentive and successful in class: There's nothing wrong with the children, their doctors and parents are simply drugging them as a form of doping to make them more successful in class. It has nothing to do with health issues.

Drugging children to make them quieter is just inhumane and horrendous. Any parent who does this should be ashamed. Any doctor who goes along with it should have his license revoked and banned from ever practicing medicine again. (It may not be as bad as doctors who give puberty blockers to children, or even mutilate them for life for no good reason, but it's close.)
