Predictions for the near future, part 22

The World Chess Federation, FIDE, is the largest international chess organization in the world that acts as the main governing body of international chess competition. FIDE defines the rules of chess, and the rules of chess competitions (at least those sanctioned by the organization). It also grants titles to strong players and maintains Elo ratings for literally millions of players.

With such an enormous organization, supervising such huge amounts of people, and organizing and ruling over such enormous amount of tournaments and competitions, it's pretty much a miracle that it hasn't yet been completely invaded by social justice ideologues and turned into a quasi-fascist tyrannical oppressive regime.

And that's my prediction of today: It's only a matter of time.

Many lengthy feminist articles and opinion pieces have already been written by prominent people and published in prominent online publications, read by millions of people, on the subject of "women and chess", with all your traditional social justice talking points, trying to explain how the lack of women in top ranking positions is caused by whatever misogynist injustice and so on and so forth.

It's always the same thing. It works the same way, again and again.

It's only a matter of time before FIDE gets complete invaded.

It's only a matter of time before FIDE publishes a social justice Code of Conduct full of social justice buzzwords and discriminatory principles.

It's only a matter of time before FIDE starts banning people for expressing the "wrong" opinions (even when those opinions were expressed in forums and situations completely unrelated to FIDE or even chess itself.)

It's only a matter of time before FIDE bans the first grandmaster who is immensely popular among chess enthusiasts, causing a huge controversy.

And thus it's only a matter of time before, once again, a rift forms in the worldwide chess community, with some prominent players becoming very loud social justice warriors, and others criticizing them and being banned, and the remaining top players being forced into complacency and platitudes even though they would want to stay out of it and just play the game.

It's only a matter of time before the dissenters are expunged and unpersoned, and FIDE starts pretending that they don't exist, essentially hiding all dissent, making it look like there's unanimity among the worldwide chess community of top players.

Because that's how it always goes.
