How social justice kills movies

Dante "Tex" Gill was a real-life gangster and organized crime kingpin, who was rather extraordinary in that she was actually a woman who disguised herself as a man, in order to get more respect. Almost sounds like a fairy tale, but apparently was a real event. Certainly could make for a good movie.

And that's exactly what some writers and producers thought. This would be quite a big-budget movie, with world-renowned actors. The leading role would be given to none other than Scarlett Johansson, one of the most famous and popular actresses in the world.

Enter the social justice mob to kill the movie in its tracks, with identity politics and insane troll logic.

You see, in the social justice ideology a woman pretending to be a man is "transgender". Because of course she is. No need for any medical procedures or anything. You are what you say you are, period, no questions asked. If you are a woman who says she's a man, then you are a man, period. And because you were a woman and now you are a "man", you are now also "transgender". Because of course you are. (Even the Wikipedia article, which was created very recently, classifies her as "transgender", because of course it does. Wikipedia is run by the social justice mob. Just try to edit that part out and see how quickly it gets reverted.)

So what's the problem? Well, since Dante Gill was clearly "transgender", and Scarlett Johansson is not, this is a serious problem! Only transgender actors can depict transgender characters. Why? Again, because reasons.

Thus, the social justice keyboard warriors started engaging in their online mob justice by typing furiously on their keyboards. In a sane world nobody would care about this, but for some insane reason entities, corporations, producers and the media give way too much weight to some anonymous keyboard warriors furiously typing at their keyboards and sending text to the internet, and thus this became a completely artificial "controversy".

As a result, Scarlett Johansson withdrew from the movie project. I suppose I can't blame her, especially if text on the internet started seeping into her real life.

Of course the problem here is that famous actors sell movies. A movie with very famous actors is much more likely to become successful than a movie with completely unknown actors. And Scarlett Johansson is one of the top selling actors out there. Now she's gone. And because she's gone, and all this fake controversy, producers are losing interest in the whole project. At this point it seems likely that the movie will not be made at all, or even if it's made, it will be with a much, much smaller budget, and much smaller in scope and production values.

For all intents and purposes the movie project is dead. And anonymous people typing furiously at their keyboards killed it.

Our society gives way too much power to keyboard warriors. This seriously needs to stop.
