Five years ago I wrote about the question of whether the Western World is going to disappear just like the Roman Empire.
For quite a while now this "soft empire" of sorts that we have, the so-called "Western World", and especially Europe in particular, has felt too big, too powerful, too stable to ever fall, to ever cease to exist, to ever crumble into pieces and become a disjointed set of small warring states, most of them either totalitarian or run by pure anarchy, accompanied by a complete economic collapse and the ensuing death of millions of people. Europe in particular seems too successful, too rich, too strong, too stable for that to happen.
Yet, we have many precedents for this in history. No better example than the Roman Republic, later Roman Empire. It lasted for about a thousand years, was the largest superpower on the entire planet, controlled the majority of the known world, and had a military, governmental and economic power that no other nation could match. I'm quite certain that a lot of people at Rome's absolute height thought exactly like we think today: Rome is too big, too powerful, too rich, too stable, to ever fall. It will exist forever. It physically cannot fall, it cannot cease to exist, it cannot crumble.
Yet, it did.
At first it split into two massive halves: The western empire, and the eastern empire. The western half fell and for all intents and purposes ceased to exist some time around the 5th century, splitting into smaller and smaller nations, most of them warring with each other and becoming highly oppressive. The eastern half (which became the so-called Byzantine Empire, but which was pretty much the eastern half of the original Roman Empire) lasted for a thousand years more, but it too eventually fell and ceased to exist.
The reasons for the fall were complex and multi-faceted. Over the last few centuries of its existence, the western empire was plagued with political instability, political infighting, coup d'etats, civil wars, economic mismanagement, gradual loss of territories (which meant less tax revenue and other resources needed to run the empire), and especially towards the end, ever increasing attacks by foreign peoples, while the formerly impressive Roman army was weakening more and more by the decade. The official cessation of the Western Roman Empire is historically marked on the year 476, when its government essentially ceased to exist, and it was a quick downspiral from there.
The Eastern Roman Empire, which became what's called the Byzantine Empire, did not fall as dramatically and suddenly, and it indeed took it a thousand years more to cease to exist. The major reason was a much more gradual loss of territory due to various factors, including economic and military. The empire waned over the centuries, becoming smaller and smaller. What was once an absolutely massive nation, covering a good portion of the Middle-East and North Africa, shrunk more and more over the centuries until it was nothing but a relatively small city-state (that of Constantinople), which itself also fell eventually, putting and end to the former Eastern Roman Empire.
So yes, the biggest, richest and most powerful empire of the time, which at its height felt invincible and untouchable, first split into two massive halves, and then one half fell, and while the remaining half continued its existence for another thousand years, it eventually fell and ceased to exist as well.
I don't consider this "soft empire" of ours, the so-called Western World, especially Europe, to be any safer in this regard than the Roman Empire. It seems to me that Europe is eventually going to fall. It might still be called "Europe" in terms of a geopolitical region, but it will look nothing like it looks now, and its governments and economy will look nothing like now, and likely its division into countries will look nothing like it looks now. The European Union itself will cease to exist, at least in its current form, and economy will completely collapse, and most countries will cease to exist as they are now, and NATO will likely be dismantled as well. This will be, in essence, no different than what happened to Rome. (There might even be some kind of split into two major halves, eerily repeating history.)
The reasons for this very likely eventual collapse will in some aspects be very similar to what happened to Rome, but in other aspects quite different.
I believe there are two core reasons that have set in motion this eventual collapse. Firstly, the Second World War, which essentially created what has been called a "foundation myth" for Europe (a very, very detrimental one). Secondly, quite likely the actions of the KGB at the height of the Soviet Union (namely, the infiltration of western universities in order to plant the seeds of Marxism-Leninism into the western world, for the purposes of causing it to destabilize.)
I have the theory that these two things combined have caused the current situation, where Europe is deliberately destroying itself from the inside.
When the Second World War was over and Nazi Germany defeated, Europe engaged in an absolutely massive "cleansing" operation, removing every single vestige of the former regime. Everything, and I mean absolutely everything, that the Nazis created, was systematically and meticulously destroyed and erased. Buildings were demolished or heavily changed, destroying every single vestige of Nazi architecture, Nazi art was destroyed, books written by Nazi authors were destroyed by the millions (with complete acknowledgement that it was hypocritical, even by the very people doing the destroying), and even every single street named by the Nazis was renamed (no matter how innocuous the original name might have been). It was an absolute and total cleansing, removing every single vestige of the Nazi regime, to the smallest of detail. It was a complete eradication of anything even resembling Nazi culture, with complete disregard to any historical or artistic value (and with complete disregard to whether the work in question was in any way even remotely related to the Nazi ideology. It was enough if the author was a "Nazi", or it was somehow created or commissioned by the government. It had to be eradicated.)
Over the next 50 years following that episode, up until about the late 1990's or so, Europe started the healing process and was making good progress in leaving that incident behind, relegating it into the annals of history. Not to be forgotten, but also not allowing it to mandate our lives. The "foundation myth" of the Nazi regime and the Holocaust was always looming in the background, but it was not heavily controlling European society and politics. It was, of course, always talked about and always taught at school and in television, but it did not significantly affect politics and society. At least not yet.
Then, by the late 1990's and early 2000's, the sociopolitical seeds planted into universities by KGB spies and infiltrators started to blossom. First slowly and very gradually, but gaining more and more momentum by the year.
And, suddenly, when the brainwashed drones created by universities started becoming more and more radicalized, and started taking over more and more influential positions in society, the "foundation myth" became the most important thing in western society. The core characteristic that affects everything that we must do.
After the far-leftist Marxist-Lenininist ideologues started invading every aspect of society, especially all positions of influence, suddenly country after country started basing their policies on the "foundation myth". Suddenly, country after country felt the need to make amends, to "fix" the problem that the "foundation myth" caused. Not that they could point out what the problem was, but that didn't matter: They just started claiming that there was a problem, and it needed fixing urgently.
And what was the primary way to "make amends" and to "fix the problem" that they claimed existed in our society, due to Europe's history from over 50 years ago?
Importing hundreds of millions of low-skilled unqualified people from distant lands into Europe, people who are as culturally incompatible with European values as possible. That's what.
How does that "make amends" and "fix the problem" (that they invented out of thin cloth)? Who knows. But that's the solution, and they are not stopping until the entirety of Europe has been completely invaded and replaced by foreign peoples. That somehow makes for the horrors of over 50 years ago. We did a very bad thing back then, so now we have to do penitence and submit ourselves to massive amounts of foreign people from distant lands who are here only to take advantage of us, have zero respect for us, and have zero respect for our culture, and do not care one iota if our countries collapse and get completely destroyed, economically and physically.
Where the Vandals ransacked Rome and left it in ruin, the foreign people will ransack Europe and leave it in ruin. The big difference is that Rome did not invite and welcome the Vandals with open arms. They did not tell them "come to Rome and take over, replace us, destroy our society, our culture and our nation."
Yet, this is exactly what Europe is doing, nowadays often very openly and directly, saying it out loud: "Yes, we want as many foreign people into our countries as possible, and we want them to replace us." More and more European politicians are completely open about this and are saying it directly in their speeches, completely unambiguously.
And, somehow, incredibly, they remain in power and are not put on trial for treason.
Incredible.
