Insightful 4chan post about the "foundation myth" of the modern west

Some time in 2019 an anonymous user in 4chan made this post, which got some popularity and has recently resurfaced and commented on by some youtubers:

It defines the concept of "foundation myth" of a society, and posits that for all intents and purposes the second World War became such a thing for the modern west.

It really is an insightful notion, as said war and, especially, the Holocaust, has indeed strongly shaped the western world and its policies, and it seems that it's almost always the underlying foundation and basis for many sociopolitical decisions that are made, as if it was our sacred duty to somehow keep "making amends" in one way or another because of it.

As the post puts it, the Holocaust is for all intents and purposes considered sacred: You cannot mock it, you cannot doubt it, you cannot make light of it, you cannot dismiss it, you cannot consider it unimportant and irrelevant to modern sociopolitical decisions and how it shapes our society. Monuments have been erected to commemorate it, and these monuments themselves are, likewise, for all practical intents and purposes, considered sacred: You cannot disparage them, you cannot criticize them, you cannot mock them, you cannot deface them. Doing so is tantamount to sacrilege.

In fact, in some countries (such as Germany itself), publicly expressing doubt or criticism of the events of the Holocaust, or desecrating any of the numerous sacred Holocaust memorials, is outright illegal can will be punished with fines or even jail. It is considered that sacred.

(For the record: Rather obviously the Holocaust happened, pretty much exactly as it is told in history books. There is zero doubt about that. That's not the issue. The issue is that even the doubters have the right to free speech, the right to express their opinions. The principle of free speech does not exist to protect the popular opinions; it exists to protect the unpopular opinions, even when those opinions are abhorrent and wrong. However, in those countries the Holocaust is so sacred that even free speech does not protect those who would deny it.)

And as the post says, because every single aspect of this "foundation myth" is negative, it has likewise shaped the western world in negative ways.

It wasn't always that way, though. The west, particularly Europe, was actually making good progress since the 1950's to about the 1990's to get over it, and to become a free libertarian equal society. While WW2 did shape a lot of political decisions and laws, it wasn't extremely bad yet.

However, since the early 2000's to this day, at an ever-accelerating rate it has all been going completely downhill. The WW2 "foundation myth" is kicking in once again, in full force, stronger than it ever was, to the point that the west has become outright suicidal as a society, on a path of self-destruction. The "we must make amends and pay for our sins" mentality has started once again in full gear, particularly starting from the mid-2010's forward, both in Europe and North America.

And those "amends"? Self destruction. That's what. That's what the far left, which has been awfully successful in gaining power, has decided: The only way to "redeem" ourselves is to completely destroy this western society. The only acceptable outcome, to them, for the "foundation myth" is that it ends in complete annihilation of our society, as some kind of payment and revenge for sins past.
