A couple of years ago I wrote a blog post about how some American companies, especially in the tech industry, had apparently started to awaken to the problem of "leeches" among their employees, and started to lay them off in large numbers.
I call a "leech" in context someone, very typically a far-leftist college or university graduate (although that's not a requirement) who has spent her (most typically it's a she, although there are of course male examples) entire studying career learning about far-leftist ideology, doctrine and activism rather than learning something actually useful that could help them get a good job and career, and would contribute to society.
From those people, the "leeches" are the ones who somehow manage to get a job at a company, typically a huge tech company with thousands of employees, perhaps via connections, perhaps by somehow managing to pass the job interview (which may be much easier if the interviewer is herself such a leech), and who does pretty much nothing productive in that company other than getting a huge salary.
Many of these giant tech companies act as, essentially, "daycare centers for adults", at least when it comes to these dozens, sometimes hundreds, of leeches: They go there, they do nothing but lazy around, they might do some extremely easy and menial job (like reading and responding to some emails, perhaps read some documents), and they might even remain in the office for just a few hours, while still collecting salary for a full 8-hour day, if not even more.
I surmise that there are two main types of such "leeches":
There are the ones that are in a very small powerless minority within the company and, thus, need to be careful not to be noticed, and thus try to remain as unnoticeable and hidden as possible so as to not draw attention, so that nobody notices that they aren't actually doing anything in the company. (And even if someone at some point starts asking questions about what exactly she is doing there, what her job is, she has some readymade answers to try to pretend like she is actually doing stuff, in the hopes that nobody scrutinizes any further nor digs up any more details about her supposed "work".)
Then there are the leeches that are part of the far-leftist activists that have taken over the workplace: These don't need to hide anything because they are for all intents and purposes in charge. They have all the power, and they are untouchable because everybody is too scared to go against them. These are the far-leftist activist troublemakers who are trying to make the workplace a direct extension of their university campus: All the draconian far-leftist rules and limitations, and they are the enforcers. They write memos and demand lists, they set the rules of conduct within the workplace, they boss people around and cause everybody to walk on eggshells around them, all the while they themselves do nothing but lazy around and socialize among themselves openly and unashamedly, talking about far-leftist talking points that are completely unrelated to their jobs. They are also the ones that make the office a very toxic environment to be.
Both have in common that: a) they do pretty much nothing productive, b) on the contrary they are just detrimental to the productivity of the company, and c) they raise huge salaries while doing nothing to earn it. In other words, they are not just a mere monetary loss to the company, but their very existence there lowers the productivity and happiness of the workers who actually do something productive (or at least try to.)
While a couple of years ago some large companies (some even quite famous ones) tried to get rid of these people, all reports indicate that they were not very successful in the end, and also there are still plenty of companies, especially in the United States, that are plagued with these leeches, and they are going nowhere.
These leeches are just too virulent, too cancerous, and apparently these companies just can't get rid of them. They have either taken completely over all the management positions, or the manages and owners are too intimidated to fire them. They are like a sort of mafia, no doubt threatening even more problems at even the hint of them being fired.
All these companies really need to clean up their ranks, else they are facing more and more economic problems in the future, as these leeches destroy their workplace.
