Western countries are forgetting what the military is for

It has been less than 80 years since the largest and most devastating war in human history ended, at an incredible cost, almost ruining the civilized world... and many western countries are already forgetting what their military exists for.

There's no need to sugar-coat it: The military exists to protect the country from foreign threats (and, sometimes, from internal threats if they are too big for the police forces to handle). This means killing foreign soldiers if need be. It would be nice if that never had to be done, but sometimes there just is no alternative: It's either them or us.

All countries have military forces, and it's pretty much literally an arms race on whose army is more powerful and efficient at killing and destroying than the others. Optimally military forces act as a deterrent: When a country has a very strong military, it deters malicious actors from trying to invade or attack the country, for the fear of retaliation and heavy casualties.

But apparently the west has lived way too long in peace because country after country is starting to forget what the military exists for. Instead, they are in increasing manners treating the military as if it were just a job of prestige, which is more like a formality than having an actual function.

It is a job of prestige, but that's because the soldiers are willing to put their own lives on the line in order to protect those who can't protect themselves. It's not a prestigious position merely because it's "the military". It's a prestigious position because of the willingness of the soldiers to sacrifice themselves for their own country, their fellow citizens and compatriots.

Yet, more and more western countries are treating it like it were some kind of office job. Just a formality with a great deal of prestige. Thus, they think, it's unfair and discriminatory if not everybody has a chance to enter this prestigious job and get the societal admiration and rewards.

In other words, they are in increasing manners trying to attract snowflakes.

The army is not for snowflakes. The army is for strong young men who have the physical and mental capacity to literally fight on the frontlines for their country. They need to be fit and trained, they need to be strong, they need to have stamina. They need to be able to walk and run great distances with heavy loads, and have strength to spare for an armed conflict. They need strength, both physical and mental, to fight even after a week of physical hardship. They need strength to help their fellow soldiers if need be. If need be, they need to be able to run while carrying a fellow soldier in full gear.

Snowflakes have no place on the battlefield. They are a liability to their team. They will break down, both physically and mentally, and they will be completely useless and just a load.

The military is not a place for "political correctness". It's a place for pragmatism. If defending the country from harm means discriminating against snowflakes, then so be it. Lives are at stake. We cannot afford playing political games when there are lives to protect.

I hope the west remembers this once again, before it's too late.
