The great Chinese coronavirus epidemic swindle

In my previous blog post I mentioned how Chinese authorities tried to censor the nature of the COVID-19 disease during the initial stages, before finally reversing their policies and informing the world about it. China then proceeded to implement very strict lockdown and quarantine measures in order to stop the spread of the disease.

A great swindle followed.

What am I talking about? The vast majority of the rest of the world seems to live under the illusion that while the Chinese government at first botched its response to the epidemic, censoring people and not reacting quickly enough, they then recanted their bad attitudes and proceeded to become more open and take decisive action to stop the epidemic. They are, in fact, painting themselves as somewhat of heroes of the world, being on the frontlines in the fight against this pandemic.

And many people are, in fact, talking positively about China's actions. They talk about how effective the lockdown measures have been in stopping the epidemic, and how the number of new infections and deaths has gone way down, and how the epidemic is almost over in China.

What most people don't seem to be aware of is that the lockdown is not only in terms of restricting people's movement, but also in restricting people's ability to communicate with the outside world.

The fact is that the Chinese authorities have little to no concern about the well-being of their citizens, who are locked up in their homes, unable to exit or get any essential sustenance and medicine. Nor about the absolutely horrendous conditions at the extremely crowded Chinese hospitals.

Social media posts, including photographs and videos of the horrible conditions they have to live in, made by Chinese people about their situation are quickly censored and removed by the government.

Some of them have succeeded in bypassing the censorship by using VPNs, giving a glimpse of what's actually happening in China. See, for example, this video by the New York Times.

China is not a hero. China should not be praised. They are as oppressive as ever, and they are severely mistreating and neglecting their own citizens, and censoring them and stopping them from having any communications with the rest of the world.

I wouldn't trust any numbers that the Chinese officials are reporting about their amount of cases and deaths. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the actual number of deaths is much larger than the official number. I wouldn't even be surprised if the epidemic is still spreading like wildfire there, and the Chinese government is not announcing any accurate numbers, just to save face, and keep pretending that they are the heroes of the world.
