Neonazis (actual bona fide neonazis, not what the regressive left calls "nazis", because they call everybody who doesn't agree with them that) love to try to whitewash the crimes against humanity done by Nazi Germany, mostly via hefty amounts of historical revisionism full of lies and distortion.
The thing is, as I have noted in the past, neonazis and their opinions don't really matter, and are mostly inconsequential. That's because they hold no political power and have almost zero influence on anything in society. I actually oppose the censorship and criminalization of neonazis expressing their opinions. I'm a firm believer in universal freedom of speech for everybody, regardless of how heinous their opinions are. I wouldn't be able to in good conscience advocate for censorship of someone else's opinion while claiming that I should retain my freedom of speech. In this particular case, particularly, letting them have and expressing their opinions is rather inconsequential because they hold no power, they don't control anything in society, and people just ignore them.
It's a rather different story with neo-communists, though.
Let this be absolutely clear: Communism is worse than Nazism. Communism is the political ideology that has massacred the most people in the entire history of humanity, and by a long shot. The number of victims of Nazism is estimated to be about 10 to 20 millions. The number of victims of Communism in Soviet Russia alone is estimated to be between 50 and 100 million (and this isn't counting the tens of millions of people killed in other Communist countries like China). Even by the most liberal estimate of victims of Nazism and the most conservative estimate of the victims of Soviet Russia, the latter still wins by a landslide.
Communism should not only be considered as abhorrent as Nazism. It should be considered worse. It's one of the most despicable political ideologies of the entire history of humanity.
The main difference between the two, in the modern world, is that neo-communists have much more influence in society. There are full-on communists in the congress of many countries (including the United States), as school teachers, company CEOs and so on. If you can find even one single neo-nazi in one of those positions of power, you'll be lucky.
Yet, for some reason, Communism doesn't have even nearly as much of a negative connotation in modern western society as Nazism does. And this is incredibly dangerous! Like neonazis, neo-communists should be ignored and not given any political power. They should be relegated to be a fringe extremist ideology. They should never be voted into office, and they should never be allowed to have any position of power. Let them have their opinions, but don't give them any power. They are worse than nazis.
One common tactic that Communist sympathizers are using online is whitewashing Soviet Russia because of what they did during World War II. The sympathizers are saying that Communists helped destroy Nazi Germany, at a great price, and thus they are the good guys.
In this sense, Soviet Russia got lucky, as 60 years later they got an uplift in their public image thanks to the events that happened.
Russia didn't really attack Germany because they wanted to help destroy the Nazi regime. What happened is that Germany, completely foolishly, declared war against Russia and tried to invade it. Russia deemed this such a huge threat that they decided to strike back.
If Germany had never declared war to Russia, things might have turned out quite different.
Sure, Russia helped destroy the Nazi regime. However, that does not absolve the Soviet Union for its crimes against humanity and the 100 million people it massacred in its gulags.
If "never again!" is a motto used against Nazism, it should also likewise be used against Communism.
