Gab.com are nothing but hypocrites

Gab.com gained a lot of notoriety for becoming the pro free speech alternative to Twitter, which would not ban nor punish people for expressing their opinions. It became a symbol of the counter-culture to the current regressive leftist Silicon Valley tech megacorporations that have been on a crusade to restrict free speech, and which liberally engage in censorship and pushing a political agenda, and banning people for their expression of opinion.

Gab.com became so notorious for this that they found themselves on the receiving end of an absolutely massive attack and discrimination by these megacorporations. Internet Service Providers denied them their services, payment processors (such as PayPal) and credit card companies denied them their services, and all of the major social media platforms and their owner companies banned them, including Twitter, Facebook, Apple and Google. Even Firefox and Chrome banned the Gab's "dissenter" app, even though it literally broke no rules (and these bans were done in complete silence, without citing a single reason for it).

I don't think any company has ever been the target of such a massive cooperated attack by giant megacorporations working in unison. Giant payment processors, credit card companies, internet service providers, crowdfunding companies, social media websites, digital distribution platforms, web browsers... all in a massive coordinated effort to destroy this one small company which only "crime" is not to want to censor its users.

Eventually gab.com found an ISP and a payment processor company willing to offer them their services, so they could run their Twitter alternative.

Great! Right? We need more platforms that support free speech. We need more freedom, not more censorship and restrictions. It's great that some people are willing to stand up to the bullies, to the megacorporations, and willing to offer people the freedoms that are their inalienable human rights. It's great to have companies that support people's rights rather than stifle and restrict them in order to push a political agenda...

... if it weren't for the fact that gab.com are just a bunch of fucking hypocrites.

Gab.com recently banned pornography from their site. That in itself isn't really the problem. I don't really care about that. The problem is the reason why they banned it. Here's their reasoning:
"Pornography is not speech any more than flag burning is, regardless of the tortured interpretations of the First Amendment by the Supreme Court over the years in an attempt to "protect" certain activities by classifying them as "speech"."
This was following by a rather insane post by them:
"How Porn DESTROYED the Patriarchy and the West"
Moreover, they made posts celebrating the banning of pornography by several major online platforms. Many of these online platforms were the same ones that participated in the massive attack against gab.com, including PayPal.

And what do you know, when people started commenting that they have become what they hate, that they are just banning free speech, just like the regressive left and all those megacorporations are doing, that this is nothing more than the same old "hate speech is not free speech" all over, do you know how they respond to those posts? With mockery, of course. What else.

I myself don't really care about porn, and it may even be better to not indulge in it too much, but that's not the point here. The point is, as said, the reason why they banned it. For all their fancy talk about protecting free speech, they are nothing but just more of the same bullshit as the regressive left.

Just like the regressive left, gab.com is now trying to be the gatekeepers and arbiters of morality, of what you should and shouldn't be seeing. They just want to be the morality police of the people. Just like the regressive left, they talk about supporting free speech, yet want to restrict it when it's something that they don't like, and visibly and loudly celebrate when it's restricted (even when it's their enemies that are restricting it).

And yes, flag burning is speech, and it does fall under the protections of free speech. It might not be nice and respectful speech, but it is speech nevertheless.

The ban itself isn't the problem. Porn is banned eg. on youtube, and that's fine. But youtube is not arguing the ban with "it's not free speech". It's the reasoning that's the problem here.

It turns out that gab.com is just the same bullshit, just in different clothes. They aren't all that different from the regressive left after all.

I deleted my gab.com account. Fuck them. They can go bankrupt for all I care.
