One of the biggest leftist lies about illegal immigrants in the US

It's quite ironic that the American far left has now decided that deporting illegal immigrants is somehow a crime against humanity and are fighting tooth and nail against it. Why is it ironic? Because during Barack Obama's presidency (a Democrat president) there was a record-high number of deportations of illegal immigrants (far, far more than during both of Trump's terms combined so far), yet nobody on the left said a peep about it. For some reason it didn't seem to be a problem back then, even though now it apparently is a crime against humanity. It's now a crime against humanity only because Trump is in office, and that's it.

The American left and the Democratic Party are painting this picture that the vast, vast majority of illegal immigrants in the United States are "otherwise law-abiding". That the (otherwise) criminals are a microscopic minority of them. They want to paint this picture that illegal immigrants are just fleeing poverty and persecution (even though you are a horrible racist if you disparage their countries of origin, of course) and have come to the United States to have a better life, and are there working and being part of the community, and being good citizens (even if they aren't literally citizens), following and obeying all laws, and doing nothing wrong to anybody. In other words, literally their only "crime" is having entered the country illegally, and that's it. And, of course, because they are "otherwise law-abiding" who positively contribute to society, that illegal entry should be considered just an inconsequential technicality.

Problem is: It's almost impossible for an illegal immigrant to be "otherwise law-abiding".

Most people, particularly leftists, just believe that mental picture that their own side is painting and never thing any deeper.

Why is it almost impossible for an illegal immigrant to not break any other laws of the country?

Because they are not officially citizens, and thus they don't have an official state-issued ID, and thus they effectively don't exist and, thus, don't pay any taxes because the government doesn't have any idea that they even exist and thus can't demand taxes from them.

And why is that crucial? Because how exactly are these "otherwise law-abiding" illegal immigrants supposed to live in the country, to get an income, to get a living? That's right: By working for someone who will pay them under the table, without declaring it to the IRS. Or by committing other crimes, such as selling drugs or committing theft.

Illegal immigrants don't pay taxes, which is a crime in itself. Most of what they earn has been procured illegally in one way or another, and without paying any taxes. On top of that, if they ever draw a vehicle they are also committing a crime because they can't get a legal driver's license without an ID.

It is theoretically possible for an illegal immigrant to be "otherwise law-abiding", and that's if a legal citizen of the United States fully provides for and sustains them. That, however, constitutes a microscopic fraction of all illegal immigrants.

So, ironically, it's the exact opposite of what the leftists claim: It's actually the genuinely "otherwise law-abiding" illegal immigrants who are the microscopic minority. The vast majority commit other crimes as well, primarily tax evasion, and likewise other crimes.
