I perfectly understand why YouTube has for many years implemented and used automatic moderation of comments. Given that probably literally millions of comments are written by people every single minute, it's literally impossible to have every single one of them checked by a human. Also, relying solely on people reporting infringing or inappropriate comments is very slow and unreliable. Thus it's understandable that an automated system is used, particularly nowadays that AI has become so incredibly smart.
However, over the last couple of years this automated comment moderation system has been increasingly broken. Particularly during 2025, especially in the summer/fall months, it was completely broken, with something like 30-40% of main comments being completely wrongly auto-removed, and to my estimation a whopping 80-90% of replies to other people's comments being auto-removed, completely at random, completely regardless of what the comments were saying. There was also some very weird behavior where someone's response to my comment was not visible when I was logged in, but was visible when I wasn't (which seems completely backwards), so there was clearly more to the auto-moderation logic than simple removal, as the visibility of comments was dependent on something.
In the last month or so, however, something has clearly changed, and it can really be felt. Not only has YouTube implemented a new graphical layout for the comment section, but it appears that the automatic moderation system is not even nearly as eager to remove comments as before. Since at least the past month I have not noticed a single one of my comments disappearing, and the fact that they aren't even being shadow-banned can be seen from the fact that most of them get thumbs-ups and replies, so they appear to be visible to other people (or at least a good portion of them).
Perhaps YouTube has finally fixed their broken automoderation system? One can hope so.
