Yeah, I know, the entire idea of the Earth being flat is the most delusional claim of them all, but putting that aside for a moment, and looking at some individual claims and "evidence" that they try to provide, this is one of the most delusional and ridiculous.
Granted, as far as I know, perhaps not all flat-earthers make this claim, but some of them definitely do. (I have, however, never seen a video of a flat-earther deny this claim or say that it's not valid or that it's mistaken and that they don't personally believe it's legit. Maybe some do, but I have not seen it. I would guess that most of them just say nothing because they don't want to contradict each other in their beliefs.)
And what is it? It's when they use some camera with a moderate zoom lens, and they zoom into a star or planet, don't focus on it properly, and it ends up looking like a fuzzy blur that, due to atmospheric distortions, is constantly changing, and then claiming that that is what the stars actually look like. That they are some kind of "plasma" or "energy" balls, or whatever.
Why is those one of the most delusional claims, given how delusional every single of their claims is?
Because this is a particularly dumb one, where they deliberately have to ignore even the most basic of common sense.
Literally millions of people, both professionals and amateurs, photograph stars and planets all the time, using telescopes and high-quality high-zoom lenses that are properly focused. Stars remain as sharply delineated bright dots, and with planets it depends on how much the telescope or camera is able to zoom. With enough zoom it is, in fact, possible to distinguish planetary features (most prominently, the rings of Saturn, which are the most clearly visible non-spherical feature of any planet.)
These flat-earthers just don't stop to think that if stars were indeed these fuzzy "plasma balls" that are constantly changing, then it would be a phenomenon known worldwide, both by professionals and amateurs who are photographics stars and planets all the time. People would have noticed, and they would have noticed for literally centuries. It would be common knowledge, and pretty much taken for granted. In fact, people would share these cool photos and videos of these "plasma balls" that are constantly changing shapes and colors.
Yet, they don't. Normal people know to actually focus their cameras and telescopes properly, to get a sharp picture rather than a blurry one. When they see a very blurry smear, they know that the focus is off, and will adjust it until the star or planet is as sharp as possible.
These flat-earthers are just incapable of thinking about this. Thinking about how impossible it would be to have millions of people, most of them complete amateurs, not notice that stars are supposedly these dancing plasma balls nearby. Thinking about how the internet is not full of these photographs taken by amateurs.
They just don't think. They don't want to think. They just want to believe what they want to believe and shut out everything else, shut down the rational thinking part of their brains.
