An American police officer arrives at the scene of a relatively minor fender bender that had no injuries. After investigating a bit he wrote some citations for the 63-year-old man he deemed the culprit of the accident. He then asked the man to sign the citation.
The man refused to sign it, which is actually his right. In the United States you are not legally obliged to sign those citations if you don't want to. However, the cop insisted. When the man kept refusing to sign it, the cop assaulted the man, started torturing him, and then murdered him by tasing him repeatedly.
And, indeed, this was confirmed by the coroner, who ruled it a homicide. In other words, it was not an accident or some kind of medical episode, but a homicide: The man had been killed by the direction action of the police officer.
And the only reason for the murder was because the man refused to sign a piece of paper. That's it. That's the whole reason.
So, what happened to the cop? He got fired from his position and... that's it. No other consequences. I'm not even making that up.
Can you name any other profession where you can commit murder and get away with it by just being fired?
The family of the man wasn't happy with this, so they sued the city and police precinct. Eventually the city settled the case for 3.8 million dollars.
As I have mentioned several times in previous blog posts, in these cases a "settlement" is essentially "bribing the victim (with tax-payer money) in order to have the lawsuit go away." Because that's literally what happened: Because of the settlement the lawsuit was ended and, get this, the cop got scot-free.
That's right, he murders someone, the city pays 3.8 million dollars of taxpayer money to the family of the victim, and absolutely nothing happens to the cop.
The family was still not happy with the murderer going free and experiencing zero consequences for his actions, so they filed a new lawsuit personally against him.
A grand jury refused to indict.
That's right. A grand jury refused to have the lawsuit go forward. They sided with the murderer and allowed him to still get away with what he did. He is still, to this day, completely free, having experienced no consequences for his actions other than being fired from his position. No conviction, not a single day in jail, not a single penny paid. Nothing.
That's the American justice system for you. Not only are American cops cowards and criminals, they are in fact an organized criminal gang that goes all the way to the top. They are free to murder people and the system will protect them.
