I have written before how, by this point, whenever the American left makes an outrageous claim about their political opposition, if you just assume it to be a lie, a fabrication or a complete distortion of facts, you'll most probably be right, without even needing to check.
By this point it has become more or less just an intellectual challenge trying to figure out what the actual truth is behind the lie, if you really want to bother, just for the investigative challenge.
One has to admit that sometimes their lies are pretty convincing, sound plausible, and can fool even conservatives, such as their narrative about the "transgenic mice" in that blog post above, or their narrative about Abrego Garcia.
Well, here's another one:
Recently a social media post has made the rounds that shows a video of ICE agents violently arresting a United States citizen. The video is being filmed by his wife, who is screaming and pleading with the ICE agents telling them that he's a US citizen, while said agents are holding her back and being dismissive of her. The agents look very real, their cars look very real, everything looks legit. Unsurprisingly, the post is all about how evil Trump is and how ICE is deporting even legal citizens of the United States.
The video clip is so convincing that it fooled even many conservative Trump supporters. Maybe the ICE agents just made a mistake? It happens. Surely they later then released the guy when they corroborated that he was indeed a citizen? Mistakes happen sometimes, the important thing is that something is done about the problem of illegal immigration...
Except that, as you guessed it, the video is a complete distortion of what happened, a deliberate distortion, and the social media post a complete lie.
Yes, they were actual ICE agents, and yes, they were arresting a citizen of the United States, and yes, the video was filmed by his wife who was pleading with the agents telling them that he is a citizen.
So what's the distortion?
The fact that the ICE agents weren't arresting the guy to deport him, mistakenly thinking that he was an illegal immigrant. They were arresting him because he had slashed the tires of one of their vehicles and physically assaulted one of the ICE agents. They were not arresting him to deport him, but to prosecute him for his assault on a federal officer and destruction of federal property.
Where the video becomes deliberately deceptive is that there's actually a longer version of it where one of the ICE agents actually tells the wife exactly this, but this portion was cut from the video clip attached to that original social media post. That part was quite clearly cut out deliberately in order to mislead and to cause outrage.
The actual reason for the arrest even got news coverage later (with pictures of the slashed tires, the missing parts of the video clip and all.)
The overall situation with the American left has become so ridiculous that at this point it's not even a question of whether what they are claiming is true. It's only a question of how challenging it is to figure out how they distorted the facts this time.
