Answering Neil DeGrasse Tyson's question "why do you care?"

Neil DeGrasse Tyson has for several decades now been one of the most famous and best popularizers of science and scientific thinking. He is extremely smart and eloquent, and can explain scientific concepts in a very clear and understandable but non-condescending non-patronizing way. Listening to him explain something eg. about astrophysics (which is his field of expertise) is a delight.

For the longest time he used to be a really cool guy and, to my knowledge, mostly stayed out of politics. (He may have well expressed politically polarizing opinions over the years, but nothing that would have been so notorious as to grab my attention and knowledge.)

But, it seems, the far-leftist ideology has finally ensnared also him so deeply that he just couldn't help himself but to publish a video where he defends "the gender spectrum" and how "chromosomes do not tell one's gender", and how "you can feel 20% male and 80% female today" and yada yada yada.

In that video he poses a prominent question to the critics of the far left that I would like to answer. That question is: "Why do you care?" (ie. about people who claim to be "non-binary" and so on.)

My answer to that question is this:

Why do I care? Because the people, especially those in power, pushing this agenda have created a society where if you so much as use the wrong pronoun to refer to someone, you may be harshly punished with shunning, harassment, doxing and even physical assault. In a few countries you may even be arrested.

For merely using a pronoun. That's it.

That's not a world I want to live in, and that's why I care.

I do not care what you think inside your head about yourself. I start caring when you are forcing me to participate in that thinking at the threat of smashing my knees with a baseball bat, figuratively speaking (perhaps sooner or later literally speaking.)

There is also another very big and prominent problem in modern western society that the ideology has created: Underage children who, according to your own very standard, show even slight expressions of the opposite sex are quickly pumped with drugs and hormones, and put under a knife to perform irreversible surgeries on them, not only making them infertile but pretty much in essence castrating them and causing all other types of life-long problems, before they are even old enough to really understand what's happening. These procedures are being pushed onto ever younger and younger people, who are very impressionable and extremely easy to manipulate.

I consider this as horrendous of medical malpractice as lobotomies and trepanning. And a crime against humanity to boot.

That's why I care.
