How did Fox News actually become (somewhat) reasonable?

Fox News is pretty much the only large conservative pro Republican Party news network in the United States (while pretty much all the other major news networks have always been at a very minimum left-leaning and, nowadays, so far to the left that they have broken the left wall of the political spectrum).

And not like slightly conservative-leaning and slightly pro-Republican. American conservatism to its absolute extreme, at full blast.

For decades Fox News used to be the laughing stock of other countries, with all their silly antics, baseless asinine claims, and conspiracy theories (quite naturally every single conspiracy theory of American conservatives, the reasonable ones and the most ridiculous ones, Fox News parroted at full blast). Essentially, Fox News was the conservative counterpart of the modern CNN and MSNBC, being a full-on 24/7 anti-Democrat propaganda channel. What CNN, MSNBC and the other major far-left pundits are doing today, Fox News was doing for at least a couple of decades in the opposite direction.

I myself laughed at and ridiculed Fox News for many, many years.

Yet, today, Fox News is essentially changed. Today Fox News is actually somewhat reasonable. While they do still sometimes spout baseless ridiculous conspiracy theories and unjustified anti-Democrat propaganda, for the most part what they are saying is actually pretty factual and reasonable. How times have changed...

It's not just me having somehow shifted my political position and thinking and started being more empathetic towards and well-receiving of Fox News propaganda. I don't think I have changed all that much. Rather, I have seen a clear shift in the narrative of Fox News.

And I think it's pretty clear why that is: They don't need to distort nor invent facts to drive their political agenda anymore. They can simply point, factually and without distortion, at what's happening in their country. They don't need to invent silly conspiracy theories, they can just report accurately what's happening.

20 years ago the country was not like it is today, and thus Fox News had very little to complain about, so they had to invent and exaggerate. Today, however, they don't need to do that. They can just show what's actually happening and don't need to distort nor fabricate.

That's what has changed.
