Like with so many American social justice organizations that are a century old, give or take, also the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) started as relatively good and reasonable but turned into a complete far-leftist propaganda machine during the last 20 or so years, and par for the course, they have been spouting far-leftist propaganda, distortions and lies ever since. But since the ADL still mostly carries its old reputation, ie. it's riding on its own past, most leftist publications and people just love to cite it as a "credible" source (including, obviously, Wikipedia.) Of course for about 20 or so years the ADL has been as reliable of a source for politics as a refund scammer is for the status of your refund.
One of the latest pieces of propaganda that they have published is some statistics about mass shootings in the United States, which points out that over 75% of them have been committed by far-right extremists. Well, that's some compelling evidence about how violent the far right is! Unsurprisingly, leftist activists are citing this number and source everywhere.
As you might have guessed, those statistics have been completely distorted.
And it was laughably easy to distort them: Just use the far-leftist definition of "far-right". Which, of course, includes everybody not on the left of Karl Marx in the political spectrum.
Indeed, they came up with that number by simply looking at whether each shooter presented typical modern far-leftists views or not, and if he didn't, they just declared him a "far-right extremist".
Of course it only helped if the shooter had expressed any views that the far left disapproves of. Did he frequent "incel" forums and present derogatory views of women? Far-right extremist, obviously. Did he frequent 4chan? Definitely a far-right extremist! Did he express no political views whatsoever, nor was he politically active at all? Well, he clearly wasn't a far-leftist, so far-right extremist it is!
The ADL is a complete joke.
