Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are universally hated in the UK

The United Kingdom, and England in particular, rather unsurprisingly has a very, very long history of royalty and monarchy. Regardless of what one thinks of monarchies in general and the English monarchy in particular, we can still examine the English culture in this respect and consider why Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and his wife (at least as of writing this) are so universally hated in the UK. (I'm going to skip writing a summary of who they are and what their history is. You can find that easily online.)

At worst the king or queen has been a tyrant and an oppressor. However, that's not the ideal role of royalty, nor has it been the case with even close to every king or queen of England.

Ideally, the king or queen of the country is not only a ruler, but a leader, someone who represents the people, drives the interests of the people, protects the people. The ideal royal ruler is strong but kind and humble. The king doesn't elevate himself above everybody else, but acts as a leader and protector, someone to look up to. If the people are in danger, for example from foreign invading forces, the king is on the forefront of leading the defense forces to protect the people against the invaders.

One of the most admirable characteristics of the king or queen is moral and emotional strength. The king or queen should be like a father or mother to the people. Someone to look up to. Someone with strength of will, someone who acts with decorum and dignity, someone who the people can be proud of as their leader and representative. The ideal king or queen does not elevate him or herself above the people, but speaks humbly and kindly, but with with a strength of character. The king or queen does not crumble emotionally at the sign of trouble, but stands strong and stoic. He or she inspires the people to likewise be strong against adversity instead of crumbling in fear and despair.

A king or a queen is not a victim, but a leader who is kind and strong. A king or queen does not go "woe is me!" in front of the people. A king or queen inspires confidence and strength.

This is the exact opposite image of what Prince Harry and, especially, Meghan Markle project.

Nobody likes a whining royal. Nobody likes a royal who complains, "oh, woe is me! Pity me! Look how I am the victim!" Nobody likes a royal who is weak and pathetic. These are not royals who inspire strength and confidence. These are not royals who act with dignity and decorum. These are not inspiring leaders.

These are pathetic losers who crumble emotionally at the first sign of trouble, and who beg for attention because of their victim status.

That's why they are universally hated. Britons do not want royals like that. They are pathetic and weak.
