Many years ago there was a candy in Finland that had a cover image that had a cartoon drawing of two native African people kissing. Some time in the late 90's or early 2000's (before the current craziness) they decided that the image was "racist" because the two characters had thick lips, so they proceeded to make a new similar image where the lips were significantly thinner.
Mind you, the lips were not overtly exaggerated to the point of being grossly oversized. In fact, they were relatively realistic-sized for typical African people, even as a cartoon depiction. The drawing was still considered "insensitive" and borderline "racist" because of the thick (although not overly exaggerated) lips, and were replaced with much thinner lips.
One has to wonder why. Why is depicting African black people with thick lips considered "insensitive" and "racist"? Where is this notion coming from? It's quite common for many African people to have naturally thick lips, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Why would there be?
Do you know what it actually is? It's whitewashing of the characters... by leftists.
Compare these two people, Elvis Presley and Omar Sy, a French actor, for example. What do you notice?
Is there something wrong with Mr. Sy's lips here? Of course not. They are completely normal. Many African people have naturally thicker lips. Why would there be something abnormal here?
I recently watched a YouTube video about the history of Tokyo Disneyland, and a news clip from the early 1980's was shown where the presenter says: "And they wanted not a Mickey with slanted eyes, but a mouse that roared American."
The comment section of the video is full of people, effectively, gasping at the "slanted eyes" thing, that mental image and utter-racist-depiction-that-could-have-been. There is, indeed, an extremely strong notion, especially among the far left, that depicting East Asian people, especially in cartoons, with "slanted eyes" is extraordinarily racist.
Once again one has to ask: Why? What exactly is wrong with slanted eyes? Once again, compare these two people (Elvis Presley and Zhong Shanshan, the richest man in East Asia). What do you notice?
Is there something wrong with Mr. Shanshan's eyes there? Of course not. Many East Asian people have naturally similar eyes, and there's nothing wrong with it. Why would there be?
What's happening here is that the "woke" left is, unwittingly, treating thick lips and slanted eyes as if they were somehow a birth defect, a deformity, that shouldn't be poked fun at, caricaturized, nor drawn attention to. After all, if someone has a deformity, it's extremely insensitive to draw attention to it and make fun of it by caricaturizing it and stereotyping it.
In other words, what the "woke" left is doing is succumbing to their own rhetoric, ie. doing what they claim the "far right" is doing and claiming to oppose. That is: Considering the characteristics of white people to be the "normal", the standard, and all deviations from it to be abnormal deformities. Only lip thickness typical of white people, and eye shapes of white people, are acceptable eg. in cartoon depictions. Drawing thick lips on black characters or slanted eyes on East Asian characters, even if they have realistic proportions, is "insensitive" and "racist" stereotyping... But why? Apparently because those features are abnormal and shouldn't be drawn attention to?
What else could it be? I honestly cannot think of any other reason.
The far left is unwittingly a white supremacist ideology, and this once again demonstrates it quite well. Only the features of white people are considered "normal" and thus acceptable to be depicted eg. in cartoons. Heaven forbid you depict non-white people with non-white facial features.
