It has become more and more prevalent in the regressive leftist social justice ideology that any system that rewards and embraces skill, knowledge, talent, efficiency and hard work, in other words, meritocracy, is inherently "oppressive" and "discriminatory" because, according to the ideology, it benefits white people over all other people, even if the system is otherwise absolutely impartial and agnostic to any inconsequential external characteristic of the person (such as sex or ethnicity.)
(In actuality, in the western world a purely meritocratic system actually and demonstrably benefits East Asians the most. Indeed, East Asians occupy the highest positions in statistics that measure income and success, well above white people. This is because most East Asians have a culture of duty, honor, studiousness, hard work, giving it all, and completing tasks to one's best abilities and beyond. In fact, social justice warriors are slowly seeing and accepting this fact, and ironically Asians are slowly moving lower and lower in the "oppression stack", and thus are becoming less and less of a protected class in their ideology.)
Because success is seen by the ideology as inherently unfair and oppressive, even if that success is purely due to one's own hard work, it must be opposed, and the entire meritocratic system dismantled.
Now, what is the most meritocratic system in the entire world?
Science. That's what.
Science accepts only things that actually and demonstrably work, and discards what doesn't. It's the most rigorous system in existence: Your scientific work will go through a rigorous process of acceptance (using, among others, a rigorous peer review system, and repeating of experiments), and if doesn't pass that process, it's rejected. If you want your work to be accepted, you'll better know what you are doing and be good at it! And in most fields of science it requires an extraordinary amount of knowledge, skill and talent.
It doesn't get more meritocratic than that. And that's a problem to social justice ideologues.
It doesn't exactly help that a good majority of renowned scientists are white! (Heaven forbid!)
The regressive leftist social justice ideology is already starting to slowly but surely attack western science and the scientific method. There are already examples. This is only going to escalate more and more over the following years.
Since universities are the cradles of science and social justice, a conflict is building up. When one starts attacking the other, this situation cannot stand forever.
It's yet to be seen how much damage the social justice ideology is going to do with scientific research and teaching in universities.
