In recent years eco-protesting has become a fashion in many European countries, but is most prevalent and most disruptive in the United Kingdom, regularly blocking traffic (ironically increasing pollution in the process by causing traffic jams and disrupting the normal flow of traffic, causing cars to stay on the road and running for much longer than they would otherwise have) while the police does absolutely nothing to stop this lawbreaking (even in the UK deliberately blocking traffic is illegal, but apparently you can freely break the law if you are "protesting").
The one most prominent things that they are advocating for is stopping completely the import of fossil fuels and the use of internal combustion motor cars.
Even if we took their side for a moment and assumed that was actually feasible in practice, they are still complete idiots and completely delusional.
Why? Because even if they were successful in stopping all fossil fuel burning in the entire country (thus plummeting the country into a complete economic ruin and back to the middle ages), that would do absolutely nothing to the total amount of global worldwide emissions.
Not only does the United Kingdom contribute less than 1% to the total worldwide emissions, but in fact the amount of harmful emissions produced in China increase every year by more than that 1%. In other words, even if the United Kingdom stopped all emissions right now, the total amount of emissions worldwide would still increase, mainly because of China (and also to a somewhat lesser extent by other countries like India).
In other words, their activism is not going to to anything beneficial even if they got 100% of everything the are demanding. Even if the United Kingdom completely ceased to exist and its emissions suddenly went down to a flat zero, that would mean jack squat with regards to the total amount of worldwide emissions. It would just slow down the increase of total emissions very momentarily, and that's about it. China would still continue to increase their emissions year by year, by more than that 1% every year.
I have said this many times in other places: If they really wanted to make an actual difference, why don't they go and block traffic in the country with the most emissions in the world? Isn't it curious that they only protest in a safe western democratic country, where the police is on their side? It's very safe to protest in the UK. If they truly believed in what they are doing, they would go protest in the country with the most emissions. But strangely, they don't do that. One has to wonder why.
The fact is that it's, once again, just virtue-signaling and nothing more. It makes them feel good inside, and that's the only reason why they do it. They will absolutely not listen to facts. They do not care about the facts. You could tell them all these facts with proven hard data, proven statistics, and they would not care, and they would just ignore it, and they would still keep going to pester normal people by blocking traffic, because that just makes them feel good inside. And, ironically, increasing the amount of emissions by traffic by doing so.
Of course the biggest blame falls on law enforcement. They are completely failing their duty of enforcing the law and protecting people. They are too busy bullying people who use the wrong pronouns in social media.
