The "Florida banning books" narrative

One thing that the far left in the United States, very much including the entirety of the Democratic Party, loves is to make completely spurious claims and accusations about something that the conservatives have done, and then stick to that narrative forever, repeating it over and over, ignoring every single argument that they are misrepresenting, distorting or lying about it (ie. essentially they just figuratively put their fingers in their ears and shout "la la la la I can't hear you!")

There are many recent examples, but one particularly egregious one is the claim that Florida is "banning books" (quite clearly an allusion to Nazi Germany banning and burning books).

The claim comes from a recent audit that the Florida government did on books available in primary school libraries, and deemed several of them not age-appropriate or against the primary school teaching policies of the state and thus to be removed from those libraries.

That's it: They are banned from primary school libraries, not everywhere in the state. In fact, they aren't banned from anywhere else in the state. If you want to go and purchase any of those books in Florida, you can go to any book store or retail store that sells it and purchase it just fine.

And "Florida is banning books" completely ignores the fact that there are already myriads of books banned from primary school libraries, and have been so for decades and decades. It's not like this is some kind of new unprecedented never-before-seen recent development. It's completely normal to allow only age-appropriate material in primary school libraries, and that's the case in the entire country, and pretty much every single country in the world. There are literally millions of books that aren't allowed in such libraries because they are inappropriate (ie. books and comics that are pornographic, way too violent, or contain other kind of material that's not suitable for young children).

There's nothing strange, unusual or unethical about Florida banning some new books from primary school libraries. Every single state does that, and every single country in the world does that. It's completely normal and to be expected. Not all books are age-appropriate for primary school students.

However, nothing of this is conveyed with the far left's "they are banning books" narrative. They never specify any details, and that's completely on purpose. They deliberately want people to get the wrong impression (and eg. believe that Florida has completely banned books from the entire state).

This kind of narrative is opportunistic, dishonest, reprehensible and outright evil.
