Tommy Robinson has been persecuted by the United Kingdom government, its court system and the police, for over a decade now. The police has routinely harassed him, his family and his relatives, often with no legal reason at all. Some of the most despicable acts of harassment is the British police trying to intimidate him by harassing his parents, repeatedly visiting their home for no reason whatsoever and using all kinds of intimidation tactics. The police. Not some antifa thugs, or a Muslim gang. The British police. And not only has he been thrown to prison several times, but he has been deliberately put into prison that are notorious for the amount of Muslim gangs in them. He has been subjected to months of solitary confinement, which is considered a full-fledged form of torture by pretty much all humanitarian organizations.
Recently the British courts probably broke all kinds of speed records by arresting him for "contempt of court", prosecuting him and sentencing him to jail in the span of a mere 5 hours. Not 5 weeks, not 5 days. 5 hours. The sentence was dismissed on appeal due to the clear lack or proper procedure (because, among other things, Tommy was not allowed to speak nor have counsel during this cangaroo court mock trial.) But the accusation itself was not. Now he has been once again sentenced for that "crime" to 9 months in prison. And what was his "crime"? Trying to interview some Muslims that were tried for sexual assault against minors.
The sentence is completely ridiculous. No journalist in the United Kingdom has been sentenced to jail for "contempt of court" for over 50 years. It is quite clear that this is political persecution in its purest form. He is being thrown to prison on bogus charges and completely overblown sentence severity because of his political opinions and activism.
But do you know what's the scariest thing about all this? It's not that the United Kingdom is a police state that engages in clear and blatant political persecution of people that they don't like. That's scary in itself alright, but it's not the scariest thing in all this.
The scariest thing in all of this is that many people, in many countries, including many journalists, are celebrating this, and fully support this.
Let that sink in. Journalists are celebrating a police state engaging in political persecution of a journalist for his political opinions, and doing so in a manner that will most probably get him killed. (And, if he does get killed, you can be damn sure that they will celebrate even more.)
Journalists are celebrating the blatant trampling of the most fundamental human rights. They are celebrating this persecution and attack on journalism. They are celebrating the persecution of their own profession.
You know that we are doomed when journalists and other influencers welcome tyranny and totalitarianism against themselves, and the erosion of fundamental human rights, and the creation of a totalitarian police state, with open arms.
