As a matter of principle and competent practice of medicine, doctors in general do not, and must not, trust blindly a self-diagnosis of a patient, especially if the treatment for that diagnosis is prescription drugs. A doctor must always corroborate that the patient really has the illness before prescribing any treatment. Doctors must never just blindly take a self-diagnosis presented by a patient as the truth, with no corroboration and checking. Any doctor can tell that self-diagnosis is quite common in patients, who have read things online, and made wild assumptions about their symptoms, without any sort of tests or corroborating evidence. Even if the patient is being honest, and is not trying to deliberately lie, prescribing the wrong treatment can be very dangerous to the patient, and could even lead to a lawsuit for malpractice. And of course there's always the possibility of an abuse of the system when we are talking about prescriptions drugs that are used for recreational purposes (such as amphetamines). The doctor must always examine the patient, consider the symptoms, and if necessary run lab tests to corroborate, and prescribe the treatments that he thinks treat the problem or help discovering what the problem might be, or to redirect the patient to a specialist. A doctor must never just blindly prescribe drugs to a patient without any sort of examination and testing, no matter how much the patient may be convinced of a self-diagnosis.
Yet, this is being thrown out the window when it comes to "transgender" treatment.
I'm not joking. I'm dead serious. There are hospitals in the United States, right now, where doctors are explicitly forbidden from asking any questions or doing any sort of examinations or tests, to find out what's happening, if a patient comes in claiming that he or she identifies as the opposite sex, and wants hormone treatments. When it comes to this subject, these are not hospitals anymore. They are dispenseries. They are like candy stores. The patient comes in, says that he or she wants hormones because of being "trans", and the doctors are ordered to prescribe them without question. Nothing. Nada. Nil. No questions, no examinations, no waiting periods, nothing. The word of the patient is absolute gospel and law, and cannot be doubted nor questioned. The doctor must prescribe the drugs, immediately, or lose his job.
Yes. Seriously. This is not a joke or an exaggeration.
In my opinion, any medical doctor who accepts this is not worthy of that title, and is a complete and absolute disgrace to the medical profession. Any medical doctor who has taken a hippocratic oath should refuse to do this, even if it means losing his job at that particular hospital. It's a complete disgrace.
